Seva Mitra Mandal makes the life of 150 students easier by delivering them free meals twice a day while there are many other mandals in Pune which are contributing in several ways to provide for the needy.
Since Pune has the best educational institutes in India, hundreds of students from across the country come here to get their higher education. Many students called mandals telling them that they are not able to afford expensive mess food and books. Among those, 150 students are registered with Seva Mitra Mandal.
This happened as things started to get back to normal in February 2021, and the institutions started to reopen. Students studying in Pune institutions got back there from their respective home towns. And then, 2nd wave happened in April and most of them got stuck with little to no money.
When Seva Mitra Mandal heard about this, they started giving out free food parcels to the students in need.
Ganpati Mandal started to distribute books to the children who started to spend their whole time in front of the screens during the lockdown, first for classes and then for video games or videos. They are encouraging children to read books to decrease their screen time and also inculcate reading habits.
When the summer vacation started, children do nothing but play games on mobile phones. They cannot even go out to play with friends due to Corona Virus. To distract them, and also for encourage reading habits, around 16 Ganpati mandals across Pune have started working under this initiative.
These mandals bought about 5000 books, classified by age, from wholesalers.
When a child is done reading the book, the parents are asked to give it to another child. This initiative is also getting a good response.
